These unique desk organizers have been handcrafted from used whiskey barrel staves kindly supplied by Clonakilty Distillery in West Cork Ireland. These will make a great gift for any whiskey lover or anyone looking for a unique way to help organize their desk space.
White oak is used for making the staves which are then formed into a barrel and held tightly together with iron hoops. The inside of the barrels is then set alight and the heat from the fire causes the first few millimeters of the wood inside the barrel to turn into charcoal. This helps to impart flavour into the spirit while also acting as a filter to remove unwanted flavours such as sulphur.
The barrels can, however, only be used a maximum of 4 times to age the whiskey after which they must be reused for something else, in this case, they have been crafted into unique desk organizers.
The top of each organizer has the natural gray colour that oak turns when left to mature in the open air and in some parts a rust-coloured band where the oak was in contact with the iron hoops.
The underside of the organizers still has the charred surface left from the burning process this has, however, been cleaned to avoid any unwanted black staining on your hands or surfaces.
These desk organizers are available in 2 options one with a closed-ended phone slot and the other with an open-ended phone slot so that the phone can be placed standing up or on its side for use as a docking station.
Each desk organizer has space for holding 3 pens or pencils along with a convenient tray.
The desk organizer can be personalized with a name or a short message.

At Wild Atlantic Wood my aim is to make quality handmade and unique products using wood from sustainable and well managed sources.
My main supplier of timber has both FSC and PEFC certifications and is also EUTR compliant.
I also make use of locally sourced wood from West Cork and along the Wild Atlantic coast of Ireland such as fallen branches and using wood from trees which have died due to natural causes like old age, storm damage, and insect attack and on occasion finding driftwood washed up on local beaches.
When packing orders for delivery my aim is to reduce unnecessary packaging by using padded envelopes for small items and use recyclable packaging materials such as clean used cardboard from local shops to make boxes and old newspaper for packing larger items. Over time I am reducing my use of plastic and keeping plastic and paper packing separate so they can be more easily recycled.
FSC® sets specific standards that have to be met by suppliers in the timber trade. PEFC is an umbrella brand incorporating different national certification schemes. The end goals of both bodies are the same. Both provide schemes to protect forests and ensure end users get the responsibly sourced timber they requested
The PEFC is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization which promotes sustainable forest management through independent third party certification. It is considered the certification system of choice for small forest owners
The European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR) is one part ofthe EU’s FLEGT (Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade) Action Plan which is aimed at helping to stamp out illegal logging worldwide. The Regulationentered into force on 3rd March 2013 and it is directly applicable in all EU Member States.
