This handmade desk organizer has been crafted from a solid piece of spalted Irish chestnut. The tree itself grew here in West Cork and unfortunately died due to old age and storm damage.
The wood itself is taken directly from a tree slice and still retains some of the features of the tree such as the live waney front edge and the transition from the lighter sapwood into the darker harder heartwood.
The stand has two separate phone slots each almost 9cm long by 1.5cm wide with easy access for charging cables from underneath. There is space to hold up to 10 pens, pencils, or artists paintbrushes along with a small notebook holder and a large deep front tray.
The organizer stands on four short wooden legs that raise the stand enough from any desktop or surface to allow for charger cables and such like to pass underneath.
The stand can also be used as a nightstand organizer, just set your phone alarm and leave it to charge overnight, a desk caddy, and as a catchall tray in the hallway for your keys, phone(s), and any other small items you carry with you.
A donation from the sale of this desk organizer will be given to One tree planted to help continue their work of planting trees where they're most needed in the world.
How big is it?
The stand is 30cm long by 14 to 19cm wide and stands at 6cm tall.
Shipping
I use AnPost for all of my deliveries and the stand is ready to post in 1 to 2 working days once payment has been received.
At Wild Atlantic Wood my aim is to make quality handmade and unique products using wood from sustainable and well managed sources.
My main supplier of timber has both FSC and PEFC certifications and is also EUTR compliant.
I also make use of locally sourced wood from West Cork and along the Wild Atlantic coast of Ireland such as fallen branches and using wood from trees which have died due to natural causes like old age, storm damage, and insect attack and on occasion finding driftwood washed up on local beaches.
When packing orders for delivery my aim is to reduce unnecessary packaging by using padded envelopes for small items and use recyclable packaging materials such as clean used cardboard from local shops to make boxes and old newspaper for packing larger items. Over time I am reducing my use of plastic and keeping plastic and paper packing separate so they can be more easily recycled.
FSC® sets specific standards that have to be met by suppliers in the timber trade. PEFC is an umbrella brand incorporating different national certification schemes. The end goals of both bodies are the same. Both provide schemes to protect forests and ensure end users get the responsibly sourced timber they requested
The PEFC is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization which promotes sustainable forest management through independent third party certification. It is considered the certification system of choice for small forest owners
The European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR) is one part ofthe EU’s FLEGT (Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade) Action Plan which is aimed at helping to stamp out illegal logging worldwide. The Regulationentered into force on 3rd March 2013 and it is directly applicable in all EU Member States.
